Early edition: using water wisely in Collina d'Oro
New drinking-water rules and events from 21 to 26 August.
Using water wisely, and a weekend between Carabietta and Montagnola
Early edition · Wednesday 19 August 2026
Good Wednesday from the Collina. This edition arrives early because the Municipality's new rules on drinking-water use need to be clear right away. Since yesterday, drought level 1 has applied in Carabietta; Gentilino and Montagnola, excluding Pian Scairolo, entered the same level on Sunday. Agra remains at level 0. Drinking water may not be used to wash vehicles, roads, yards, terraces or roofs, and swimming pools may not be filled.
The local calendar continues. TASIS celebrates its 70th anniversary in Montagnola from Friday to Sunday; Carabietta gathers for San Bernardo on Saturday; and the Hermann Hesse Museum hosts another reading from Hesse's Italian travels on Sunday. The Picon Association has already marked the Festa di Agra for Sunday 6 September at the Campo Sportivo Bigogno d'Agra. Viglio in Blues follows on Wednesday 26 August.
Weather: keep an umbrella close
Official MeteoSwiss forecast for 6926 Montagnola, 473 m, checked on Wednesday 19 August at 08:47. The millimetres are the central daily estimate and, where shown, the 10th–90th percentile range: an indication of uncertainty rather than a promise of rain.

No new location-specific alert was verifiable on the local page when checked, but conditions can change quickly. Check official alerts and the organiser's latest update before heading out.
Drought level 1: what changes
Level 1 now applies to Carabietta, Gentilino and Montagnola, except Pian Scairolo; Agra remains at level 0. For private users, the restrictions cover washing vehicles, roads, yards, terraces and roofs with drinking water, as well as filling swimming pools. Lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds and vegetable gardens may still be watered at level 1, but the Municipality asks residents to avoid all non-essential consumption.
This is not a general ban on household water use, and it is not yet level 2. Pian Scairolo is not currently included in Montagnola's level 1 area. The distinction matters: the networks and available resources are not identical. Forecast rain may help, but only a municipal update can change the level.
Saturday: San Bernardo in Carabietta
On Saturday 22 August, the Festa di San Bernardo organised by the Società Stangon del Carabieta begins in Carabietta at 18:30. The cantina and bar open at 18:30, the grill follows at 19:00, and Duo nostranello provides the music. Saturday currently looks like the least difficult weather day, but check the organiser or Vivi Collina d'Oro calendar before leaving.
Friday to Sunday: TASIS turns 70
The Montagnola campus hosts TASIS's 70th anniversary from 21 to 23 August. Friday is for alumni and guests, with tours and the world premiere of a new film by director and 1997 TASIS graduate Michele Josue. Saturday includes a second screening, the opening of MacDermid Hall and the Music Center, tours, an aperitif and the musical What a Life!. A third screening, another musical performance and a final reception are planned for Sunday. Not every item is an open public event; check TASIS directly for entry, invitations and registration.
Sunday: Hesse on Italy's roads
At 16:00 on Sunday 23 August, the Hermann Hesse Museum in Montagnola presents a bilingual reading of Bergamo e San Vigilio, 1913, from Dall'Italia. Lucilla Janssen reads in Italian and Morgan Powell in German. Visitors coming from Gentilino or Agra should allow time for parking and the walk up to the village centre.
Wednesday 26: blues in Viglio
The week closes in Piazza San Giovanni, Viglio, with Viglio in Blues 2026: Shurablues featuring Max Dega at 21:00. The Municipality posted the rescheduled event on 19 August. Should the weather change, the municipal calendar is the first reference.
The Oval remains open; Picon looks ahead to 6 September
Until 30 August, the kiosk at the Oval in Piazza Brocchi is open every Thursday and Friday from 17:00; Thursday also brings the local-produce market. Checks of the Municipality, online noticeboard, Canton, Cantonal Police and USTRA found no new closure directly affecting Pian Scairolo, the Gentilino tunnel or local access for the dates in this edition.
The Picon Association of Agra has marked the Festa di Agra for Sunday 6 September at Campo Sportivo Bigogno d'Agra. Its website still displays the 2025 programme, so we are not reporting unconfirmed times, food arrangements or weather plans.
